Full Description

Second World War coastal artillery battery, used to inspect suspect merchant ships approaching Boston. The battery comprised 2 six-inch gun emplacements (see MLI116227 and MLI116228), with linked ammunition magazines (see MLI125842 and MLI125843), a battery office and store (see MLI125844), and a battery engine room (not separately recorded). Associated with the battery were two coast artillery searchlights (see MLI116224 and MLI116226), two extant pillboxes (see MLI13375 and MLI13377) and a former military railway (see MLI116236). The nearby Plummers and Marine Hotels are thought to have also been used to accommodate soldiers who defended the battery (see MLI88792 and MLI88793). {1}{2}{3}{4}
