Old Bolingbroke: Through Our Eyes

Old Bolingbroke: Through Our Eyes features oral histories from village residents (of various durations), curated by commissioned artist, Rosanna McGlone. The collection highlights stories about the village and residents’ experiences during their time there, as well as their sense of self/identity in relation to place and history.

There is no doubt that the community of Old Bolingbroke village has been shaped by the history that pervades the place. This was evident in the stories told to Rosanna. Although all the interviewees are different ages, genders, and have different life experiences, growing up, living and working in Old Bolingbroke has shaped their lives.

From the blurb...

Who can trace their family’s presence in the village back to William the Conqueror? Who practiced for school sports day by hobbling round the village with his leg tied to his friend’s? Who recalls winter ice-skating on the old castle moat? Who became a champion of the village, bringing people together to celebrate its rich history?

Old Bolingbroke: Through Our Eyes is a heart-warming collection of stories from members of the village community whose lives have been shaped by where they live. For some this has been their entire lives, while others are more recent settlers. In their own words they share memories, traditions and moments that have shaped their community – a place where the past is still very much part of the present.

You will find copies of the volume in public libraries across Lincolnshire, Lincoln Cathedral and the University of Lincoln. Books are also available to purchase from the Friends of Old Bolingbroke Castle.
