Full Description

A former house which is now a hotel. The building was constructed in the early 18th century, then raised and extended in the late 18th century. There is also evidence of early 19th and 20th century alterations. It was constructed in red brick which was partly colourwashed, with pantile roofs and brick stacks. The building is T-shaped in plan and is three storeys high with a five bay front. To the rear is a later 18th century, two storey, brick range for coaches and stabling. The Plummers Hotel was built specifically for the seaside trade of the late 18th century. Freiston Shore was developed as a bathing resort in the late 18th century and was still popular in the 19th century. The areas popularity declined after this date because it was bypassed by the railway. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2}{3} Plummers Hotel is thought to have been used in the Second World War to provide accommodation for soldiers who defended the Boston Examination Battery, located at Freiston Shore (see MLI13376). {4} A moulded stone fragment was photographed in the garden of the Plummers Hotel in July 2007. It may be a fragment from the Benedictine Freiston Priory (see MLI12764). {5}
