Full Description

Large, concrete structure used to house a Second World War coast artillery searchlight. Formed part of the Boston Examination Battery (see MLI13376), and used to inspect suspect merchant ships approaching Boston. Roughly square shaped with a hexagonal eastern front. The structure was converted to be used as a summerhouse and storeroom at some point after the end of the war. {1}{2}{3}{4} A photograph of the structure was taken in July 2007, during site visits conducted for the Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. The original eastern openings have been infilled with windows, and a railed seating area on the roof can be reached by a flight of external stairs. {5}
