Full Description
A sub-rectangular or triangular enclosure measuring approx. 40m by 45m was identified on the route of the proposed Grantham Southern Relief Road during a geophysical survey in January-February 2013. A possible entrance was noted in the middle of the southwestern side, though this also matches the location of a linear response identified as a modern plough scar and could instead be a result of plough damage to the ditch. {1}{2}
A subsequent geophysical survey in 2013 identified a curvilinear feature extending c.120m from the western corner of the enclosure, possibly representing a contemporary drainage ditch or gully. The feature curves towards the southwest at its western end. {3}{4}
During a programme of trial trenching in September-October 2013, two parallel ditches approximately 25m apart were encountered that correspond with the location of the possible enclosure. No dating evidence was recovered during excavation of the features. {5}{6}
