Title Archaeology of the Fosse Way
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1991
HER Report no. 68

Abstract/Summary

Desk based assessment produced to inform the proposed dualling of the A46 road between Newark and Lincoln. The modern route overlies the course of the Fosse Way, a major Roman road that is thought to have run between Lincoln and Exeter. A programme of archaeological field walking along the proposed new road route was conducted as part of the research. Significant material found within the Lincolnshire part of the route comprised two scatters of Romano-British pottery, found on land to the south-east of Thorpe on the Hill, and a single prehistoric flint flake, found on land to the east of Cross Ways Farm. {1}
