Full Description

A substantial earthwork bank was recorded in this location in the winter of 1990-1. The feature was noted during a programme of archaeological field walking, conducted to inform the proposed dualling of the A46 road between Newark and Lincoln. The bank stood to a height of about 1m, and was flanked by ditches on both sides. It was located on the south-western side of a minor trackway, known as The Avenue, and runs along the course of the former Swinderby and Thorpe on the Hill parish boundary. The feature likely acted as a boundary marker, although its exact date of origin is not known. {1}
