The station was on part of the Great Northern Railway's, East Lincolnshire Railway line, this part of which opened in October 1848. The station was closed for passengers in 1961, and closed to goods in 1964, after which the platforms and sidings were removed and some of the minor station structures were demolished. Structures at the station included the main station office (PRN 15517), which is still extant, and a signal box (PRN 15518) and weigh machine office (PRN 15519), both now demolished.
