Full Description

The Great Central Goods Depot was built by the Great Central Railway as their 'West Goods Depot' in 1907. It was authorised by Act of Parliament in August 1905. The buildings cost £38,000 and were opened on July 8th, 1907. The warehouse was sold in 1967 to Messrs Pattinson. The main structure is of red brick, laid in an English bond, with engineering brick courses and window arches. The window sills and pediment are of stone. There are 4 bays of cast iron wondow frames, with each two windows having pillasters in between. The building originally had 3 lucans between the bays, now blocked up on the north side. The east end is double pile: four bays, outer ones with 2 windows, the central ones with 1 window, and with circular cast iron windows in the gable end. To the west was a single-storey, open-sided shed over the platforms - the bay off the Witham is filled in on the north side. {1}
