Full Description
Stamford Town Railway Station was opened in June 1848, and is still in use. The station lies on the former Midland Railway's Syston to Peterborough line, construction of which begain in March 1846 (see MLI125711). The line from Syston to a temporary station at Stamford was completed shortly afterwards, making Stamford the first town in the county to be served by a railway. Structures at the station include the station master's house and station offices (see MLI96139), a goods depot (demolished in the 1960s), and a signal box (see MLI125719). A cast iron footbridge (see MLI125716) and the southern platform waiting shelter (see MLI125717) were both added at some point between 1887 and 1900. {1}{2}{3}{4}
