Full Description

Signal box at Stamford Town Railway Station. The structure was built in 1893, to the standard Midland Railway type 2b design, and is of timber construction with a slate-clad hipped roof. The box was originally located approximately 100m further to the west, but was moved to its current location after it was decommissioned in 1987. The old signalling equipment was removed at this time, and an internal spiral staircase was installed after the original external staircase was removed. The box was assessed by Historic England in May 2019, but it was decided that the criteria for listing was not met in this instance, given its movement and the loss of original interior fittings. {1}{2}
