Description

Trial trenching was undertaken in three areas along the route of a water mains pipeline, to assess the presence/absence and nature of archaeological remains within the pipeline corridor. A total of 14 trenches were excavated in three separate areas (Areas A, B and C), sited over known cropmark features or close to finds scatters recorded in a previous programme of fieldwalking. Although 15 trenches were originally to be investigated, Trench 10 remained unopened as it lay in a cropped field. Area A contained four trenches, Area B contained five trenches, and Area C contained five trenches. Trench dimensions were not provided in the report. All the spoil was metal-detected.{1}{2}
