Full Description

PRN 35708 A small amount of Romano-British pottery was recovered from the vicinity of this site during fieldwalking. {3} During an evaluation and watching brief, several features were recorded. Several undated gullies on a north-west/south-east alignment were recorded, along with a small undated pit of unknown function. A large pit recorded at the centre of these features contained Romano-British pottery, burnt clay and animal bone. The animal bone all came from a single cattle skeleton, although carcass disposal may not have been the primary function of the pit. A fragment of rotary quernstone indicates crop processing in the vicinity. The presence of the quernstone and the proximity of the Romano-British pit to the undated features suggests that the undated features are contemporary with the Romano-British pit. It is also suggested that all these features may be associated with cropmark features to the north and south.{1}{2}
