Description

A magnetometry survey was conducted on land at Rectory Farm, Grantham, to inform the proposed construction of a residential development. A multiphase settlement was encountered in the north of the site, comprising a dense group of rectilinear anomalies containing at least three possible ring ditches to the east, and a more dispersed group of similar features further west, which appears to continue beyond the limit of the survey area. The western group included a concentric double ring ditch. Stretching southwards across the site from these settlements was a large rectilinear land division with a possible pit alignment at its southern end, suggested to be of Bronze Age date. Both north-south and east-west aligned ridge and furrow was noted across the entire survey area. Post-Medieval quarries were also observed close to Rectory Farm and towards the southern end of the site. {1}
