Full Description
A prehistoric cropmark pit alignment has been noted on an aerial photograph and the NMP. {1}{2}
Magnetometry survey conducted in 2012 revealed the extent of the pit alignment, extending further west than visible on the cropmark. It may be that the pit alignment is contemporary with the nearby Bronze Age to Early Iron Age field system (MLI126163), as the two appear to respect one another and are on the same alignment. {3}
Four pits forming part of the alignment were recorded during a programme of trial trenching in 2021. Mesolithic or Early Neolithic flints and pottery of Bronze Age date were recovered from two of the pits. Environmental sampling of two pits revealed only a small number of mollusc shells and specks of charcoal. {4}{5}
