Description

Trial trenching comprising three trenches took place on proposed gravel quarry land at Tumby, Lincolnshire. This was the second stage of evaluation following fieldwalking in 1998. Trench 1 was positioned across a former course of the River Bain and revealed that a series of flood deposits msked three main palaeochannels. These had a date range of the Neolithic to Saxon periods. No structural deposits were identified, although 184 worked flints were found, as well as Neolithic pottery. {1} {2}
