Abstract/Summary
Archive for a programme of archaeological evaluation comprising thirteen trial trenches excavated on land at Rectory Farm, Grantham, to inform a proposed residential development. The trenching confirmed the presence of the Romano-British settlement and Bronze Age-Early Iron Age field system identified during a prior geophysical survey (ELI13722), though no evidence was found of the proposed pit alignment at the southern end of the field system. Pottery recovered from features within the Roman settlement was predominantly of 2nd to 3rd century AD date. A possible rubble deposit from a stone building was recovered from the backfill of a large amorphous feature nearby, though no faced or worked stone was found.
