Full Description

The Stables, on Ramsgate Road, were visited by English Heritage in May 2013, as part of the Louth Defined Area Survey. The building served as the former stable block for the Crown Mills, and although not itself listed, it formed an important part of the mill complex. Floods in 2007 had caused damage to the ground floor of the mill complex, and extensive renovation and removal of historic fabric has detracted from the historic and architectural interest of the buildings. As a result, the decision was made to remove Crown Mills from the National Heritage List for England. The Stables were likely built at the same time as the Crown Mills building, in the mid to late 19th century. The building is L-shaped in plan, aligned north-west to south-east, and are brick built with a concrete pantile roof. The building has been converted to three dwellings, and has been subjected to considerable alteration, to the extent that it is no longer possible to read the original configuration of the building and no features relating to its original function survive. {1}{2}
