Full Description

During a geophysical survey conducted in April 2004, a group of enclosures was encountered. These were generally irregular and sub-rectangular in form, suggesting a Prehistoric date. A short distance to the south, more possible enclosures of a similar type were identified and were interpreted as contemporary. {1} Oxford Archaeology undertook a programme of trial trenching in September 2006. A northwest to southeast aligned ditch was encountered, which contained animal bone, burnt stone and a small hammerstone. Another northwest to southeast aligned ditch containing Iron Age pottery and two east to west aligned ditches/gullies containing Iron Age pottery and animal bone were also found. {2}{3}
