Description

A programme of geophysical survey was conducted on land adjacent to the A1 at Gonerby Moor, Great Gonerby, to help inform the construction of proposed new road junctions. Nine discrete survey areas across two sites were investigated. In the northern areas, ditched rectangular enclosures and associated features were encountered. The presence of ridge and furrow remains was noted across this site. A palaeochannel was also noted. In the southern site, rectilinear features possibly representing a Romano-British farmstead were encountered in the southwestern area. A group of less regular enclosures was encountered in the centre of the site, suggesting at least two distinct phases of occupation. More possible rectilinear enclosures and evidence of industrial activity was encountered at the northern survey area. Fragments of ridge and furrow were also recorded in several of the survey areas. {1}
