Full Description

A watching brief on land at Grange Farm, High Street, Bassingham revealed evidence for Roman activity and possibly occupation on the site. Three ditches and a gully from Trench 1, all containing Roman pottery and animal bone, were revealed. The gully also contained a fragment of Roman quern stone. A post hole from Trench 2, two ditches from Trench 5, all found with Roman pottery and a linear feature with two fragments of Roman quern stone were also revealed. Thirteen fragments of Roman pottery were also found in unstratified layers. {1}{2}
