Full Description

PRN 37851 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] This house is part of one building with no. 5 (PRN 37232). It is mostly timber framed and has a late 16th century origin. It was originally part of the Blue Bell Inn which was described as newly built in 1595. The Inn was subdivided into separately leased sections, most of which were used as shops with accommodation, during the 17th century. The carriage arch (see no. 5) is an original feature of the inn. A first floor room which overhangs the street is probably 18th century. A rear wing was also added in the 18th century. The bowed shop front beneath the overhanging room is early 19th century. The interior layout is also 19th century. {1} This two storey stucco house dates to the 17th century [this date is probably incorrect - see above]. It has a wide steep slate roof. It has a bowed window and a modern shop window on the ground floor and an oriel window under a hipped roof on the upper floor.
