Full Description

Early 19th century terrace of brick houses. Three storeys high with a semi-basement, the central pair break forward and are topped by a pediment. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} 30-36 Bridge Street was the subject of historical research in March 2011, when an assessment of its significance was produced to inform proposed alterations. The building is a fine early 19th century brick terrace of four houses, set within close proximity of the Church of St James, in the heart of the Louth Conservation Area. The town houses were converted in 1978 into 10 separate flats. Some original features and fabric are retained internally, including the original cantilevered staircases and stone-flagged floors at the piano nobile level. {3} 30-36 Bridge Street was assessed by English Heritage in May 2013, as part of the Louth Defined Area Survey, resulting in an amendment to its List Entry Description. The imposing neo-Classical terrace building was constructed in the early 1820's, and is built in red brick laid in Flemish bond with stucco and stone dressings and a Welsh slate roof covering. It is rectangular on plan and consists of four town houses, the smaller central two of two bays and the larger outer two of three bays. It has three storeys over a rusticated basement, and a shallow pitched roof with four wide ridge stacks and deep modillion eaves. Of special interest are the remnants of a wall painting, probably dating to the mid-1820s, discovered after wallpaper was removed in the south-west room on the piano nobile of no. 30. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {4}{5}
