Full Description

63022 St Helen's church is constructed of stone with lead roofs. The chancel was rebuilt on medieval foundations in 1874-76, replacing an earlier rebuilding of 1812. The rest of the church dates to the fourteenth century, although the listing description suggests that there are eleventh century elements. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} In 1338-39 the Bishop of Lincoln gtanted a commission to Ralf, Rector of 'Brendebroughton' to remove the wood and stones of a chapel (see 63043) in that parish in a place called Parva Stapleford (see 63042), a mile or so distant from the church, and to use them for the fabric of the church or bell tower. {5}{6}
