St Helen's church is constructed of stone with lead roofs. The chancel was rebuilt on medieval foundations in 1874-76, replacing an earlier rebuilding of 1812. The rest of the church dates to the fourteenth century, although the listing description suggests that there are eleventh century elements. In 1338-39 the Bishop of Lincoln gtanted a commission to Ralf, Rector of 'Brendebroughton' to remove the wood and stones of a chapel (see 63043) in that parish in a place called Parva Stapleford (see 63042), a mile or so distant from the church, and to use them for the fabric of the church or bell tower. {5}{6}
