Full Description

An archaeological watching brief in 1999/2000 on two house plots and a service trench at Westfield Avenue identified the remains of several wide, shallow linear features. They were considered to be a late Medieval ridge and furrow field system. Work also identified a series of gullies, one of which was stratigraphically later than one of the 'furrows'. A gully cut into the topsoil was probably modern in origin. Evidence suggested that the east end of the site was formerly waterlogged and some of the features may have been related to flood management. No finds were recovered to date the features. {1} {2}
