Full Description
Doddington Hall was built between 1593 and 1600 for Thomas Taylor. the Bishop of Lincoln's Recorder. The style is late Tudor and has an elongated H-Plan. It has a gatehouse and other associated buildings. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}
Since the date of the hall is known, it was used as a dating control in a project by Durham University to evaluate the accuracy of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating of brick. Two bricks from the foundation walls of the hall were tested and gave dates of 1586 +/- 10 years and 1576 +/- 14 years. These dates accord very well with the known date of the building. {8}
