Full Description

THE DESERTED SETTLEMENT OF CAUTHORPE IS FIRST REFERRED TO IN THE EARLY C13, AND STILL HAD 6 HOUSEHOLDS IN 1562. IT WAS USUALLY RECORDED WITH THORTON LE MOOR AND BEASTHORPE, SO DISTINCT POPULATION INDICATORS ARE NOT AVAILABLE EARLIER OR LATER. IT COMPRISED A 2 ROW ARRANGEMANT DEPENDENT ON AN EAST-WEST HOLLOW WAY. THE SOUTH ROW IS MADE UP OF RATHER REGULAR NARROW CLOSES OR PROPERTIES IN CONTRAST TO THE SHORT BROAD ONES OF THE NORTH ROW. THERE HAS BEEN TREE PLANTING ON THE SITE, WHICH MEANS THAT SOME OF THE REMAINS HAVE PROBABLY BEEN DESTROYED. {1}{2}
