Full Description

An iron axe, of medieval (or later) date from Owmby Cliff is in the collection of Mr Mossop. {1}{2}{8} A medieval bronze book mounting, found on the west (or east?) side of Ermine Street, in the area of the known Roman site, was reported by Mr H Mossop in 1966. {3}{4} An heraldic pendant was found by Mr H Mossop in about 1973. it was of gilt on copper with the enamel from the label and the ground for the central fesse missing. The rest of the field is gold, and the central fesse has a group of three fleur de lys. The arms were identified as possibly those of the Disney family, but other possibilities include those of the lords Dacre, the Bolden family of Lancashire, or the Alleyne family of Essex. {5}{6}{7}
