Full Description
A scatter of Iron Age material recovered from the known Roman settlement site at Owmby Cliff would indicate the possibility of earlier settlement in this area. Sixty-three Iron Age coins (43 uninscribed, 20 inscribed), and other possibly Iron Age metalwork is known from the site. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
Systematic field walking has produced finds of pottery including Dragonby types, rouletted pottery, and late Iron Age or early Roman storage flagons. {6}
A number of Iron Age brooches, mostly La Tene III, are known from the site including examples in the Mossop collection found in 1965 and 1970-73, and examples found in 1965, and in 1971. {7}{8}{9}{10}
A late Iron Age bronze linchpin terminal decorated with red and yellow enamel was found on the Owmby Romano-British site. It is of Ward Perkins' 'Yorkshire' type, and Macgregor's 'hoof-like' type. {11}
