Full Description

The Church of St Nicholas was rebuilt in 1865 but retains an Early English south doorway, a three-bay arcade, a south arcade and a chancel arch. The old masonry was also reused. The upper half of the 13th century bowl of the font is still present. {1}{2}{3}{4} A parish church which retains 13th century features although it was rebuilt in 1865 by James Fowler. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {5} A white marble memorial tablet inscribed with the names of the fallen from the First World War now hangs within the Church of St Nicholas. It was originally unveiled in 1920, and used to hang in the nearby former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel (see MLI99049), but was moved to the church in 1989, following the chapel's conversion to a private dwelling. {6}
