Full Description
Evidence of Roman settlement was identified during trial trenching in May 2014, in the form of a number of limestone rubble demolition deposits, possible collapsed walls in construction cuts, and possible floor surfaces. An area of burning within a pit overlying one of these limestone surfaces was interpreted as a hearth. A stone-edged post hole containing a fragment of Roman tile was also encountered. A small assemblage of 2nd-3rd century AD pottery, primarily miscellaneous grey wares, was recovered. {1}{2}
