Description
Nine trial trenches were excavated on land at Canwick Hill, Lincoln, to inform the proposed construction of a memorial to RAF Bomber Command. Evidence of possible Roman settlement was identified, in the form of a number of limestone rubble demolition deposits, collapsed walls in construction cuts, possible floor surfaces and an area of burning interpreted as a hearth. Two adult inhumations and an infilled quarry of the same date were also revealed, though the inhumations were preserved in situ. A small group of undated and post-Medieval ditches and pits were encountered towards the south of the site. {1}{2}
