Full Description

A group of undated features was encountered during a programme of trial trenching in December 2017. Two ditches, three gullies and a post hole were excavated. No finds were recovered from any of the features, though they were tentatively dated to Medieval or earlier, as they had all been heavily truncated by the post-Medieval plough soil. {1}{2} A subsequent programme of archaeological monitoring and recording revealed further undated ditches and gullies, though none were excavated during this phase of works. It was suggested that these features may have formed a network of drainage ditches or leats feeding into the moat to the northeast (MLI42289). Three undated pits were also revealed but not excavated. {3}{4}
