Full Description

A geophysical survey conducted in May 2014 encountered three linear anomalies interpreted as probable field boundaries. Two northwest-southeast aligned linears appeared to abut a third northeast-southwest aligned linear to their southeast. {1}{2} Subsequent strip, map, and record excavation of the area in July-October 2014 revealed only short lengths of two of the ditches, which appeared to form the southern corner of a field system. Waste iron ore and slag from the nearby furnaces (see MLI127376) was recovered from the backfill of one of the ditches, indicating that it was open while the furnaces were in use. The pits dug for disposing of the furnace waste are all located within this field boundary. {3}{4}
