Full Description

This former agricultural building was the subject of a detailed programme of historic building recording, conducted in July 2016, in advance of proposed alterations and change of use. The building is thought to date to the mid 19th century, and formed the northern range of an E-shaped complex of former farm outbuildings, typical of the established 'High Farming' movement, but now largely demolished or replaced by more recent structures. The building is of two storeys, and is believed to have functioned as a former threshing barn, with a granary to the upper floor. Built of uncoursed limestone rubble, the structure features some brick dressings to the windows and openings, and a pitched slate roof, now partially replaced with corrugated sheet metal. The building has been extensively altered with a number of the original openings being blocked, and extensive modern sheds and grain silos being added. {1}{2}
