Full Description

The churchyard at the Church of St John the Baptist is depicted on the 2nd edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey County Series map. It likely dates to at least the medieval period, when the church it served was built. This church was replaced in 1821 by the present structure, which is believed to stand on, or very near to the site of its predecessor (see PRN 22184). {1} Fragments of human bone were noted in January 2007, during the archaeological monitoring of the installation of new drainage and the construction of a new porch at the church. The fragments were not retained, but were believed to date to the 19th century use of the churchyard. {2}{3}
