Full Description

Traces of medieval ridge and furrow were identified in this area in October 2014, during magnetometry survey of land at High Leas, Reston. The remains were identified as a number of areas of parallel linear magnetic anomalies, mostly aligned on a roughly south-west to north-east axis. {1} Subsequent trial trenching was conducted in this area in June 2015, and confirmed the presence of extensive ridge and furrow remains, consistent with the geophysical anomalies previously recorded. Four sherds of heavily abraded medieval pottery were also recovered from topsoil deposits in the north-western corner of the site. The abraded nature of these sherds would suggest that they were deposited as part of manuring scatters, again indicating the former agricultural use of this area. {2}{3}
