Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during development at Thorold's Charity Primary School, Marston. The watching brief monitored the excavation of foundation trenches for new classroom extensions to an existing, Grade II Listed Building (Ref 300.006). The investigation identified a number of gullies and ditches which, due to a lack of artefactual material, remain undated. Also undated was a pit and an animal grave. However, these were sealed by a post-medieval subsoil and, therefore, are were no later than that date. A post-medieval pit, brick well and subsoil were also recorded. Finds retrieved comprised four sherds of Late Saxon pottery and a single sherd of medieval date. Post medieval pottery, glass and clay pipe were also recovered {1} {2}
