An archaeological excavation was conducted prior to the construction of a bungalow on land at Smithy's Yard, Eastville Road, Toynton St Peter. The investigation revealed an Iron Age pit and a possible Early Medieval enclosure system sealed by a possible 13th-14th century demolition spread, as well as several undated pits and ditches. Finds including locally produced Toynton ware Medieval pottery, fragments of an imported quern stone from the Rhineland, and a residual Neolithic flint blade were recovered. {1}{2}
