Full Description

A series of linear ditches and a group of pits were identified during an archaeological excavation on this site in August 2017. Several of the features were sealed by a spread of 13th-14th century material and therefore pre-date that period. The ditches formed a grid-like pattern and were interpreted by the excavators as representing a Medieval field system, though an earlier date cannot be ruled out. No dateable finds were recovered from the features during excavation, though one pit yielded a large quantity of burnt clay, suggesting possible industrial activity nearby. {1}{2}
