Description

Four trial trenches were excavated on land at 35-40a St Paul's Street, Stamford, to inform a proposed mixed commercial and residential development. The remains of a limestone structure of probable Medieval date was revealed close to the street frontage, truncated by a large pit containing waste from Medieval ironworking. At the rear of the plot, substantial terracing had taken place in the late post-Medieval period. Overlying this was a late 19th century cobbled surface. {1}{2}
