Description

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during groundworks for with the construction of four new dwellings and associated driveway access between August 2017 and February 2018. A demolition layer dated to the 20th century was identified overlaying partially surviving foundations of a limestone building, a series of quarry pits and an access ramp. The quarry pits and their associated ramp pre-dated the post-medieval buildings in this area. The demolition layer represented a house which was probably built in the 19th century and was demolished in the early 20th century. {1}{2}
