Description
An intermittent programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted during the groundworks for extensions to the north elevation of the Church of St Nicholas with St John, on Newport, Lincoln. A deposit containing fragments of 3rd to 4th century Roman pottery and disarticulated human bone was recorded, along with layers relating to the construction of the church in 1839. The rubble remains of a limestone structure of unknown, though likely post-Roman date, was also recorded. {1}{2}
