Title Archaeological Investigations at Poplar Farm, Grantham
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2015

Abstract/Summary

Archive for an archaeological excavation conducted on land at Poplar Farm Primary School, Grantham, to inform a proposed residential development. The potential Saxon grubenhaus encountered during the 2004 evaluation (see ELI5607) was excavated. Finds recovered from this feature included animal bone, pottery, charred wheat, barley and oat, and metalworking debris. A group of nine intercutting pits, undated but presumed to be of Saxon or Prehistoric date, and several undated shallow ditches and gullies were also encountered. A (probably residual) Neolithic flint flake was recovered from one of the ditches.
