Description

An archaeological excavation was conducted on land at Poplar Farm Primary School, Grantham, to inform a proposed residential development. The potential Saxon grubenhaus encountered during the 2004 evaluation (see ELI5607) was excavated. Finds recovered from this feature included animal bone, pottery, charred wheat, barley and oat, and metalworking debris. A group of nine intercutting pits, undated but presumed to be of Saxon or Prehistoric date, and several undated shallow ditches and gullies were also encountered. A (probably residual) Neolithic flint flake was recovered from one of the ditches. {1}{2}
