Abstract/Summary

Report on a programme of archaeological evaluation comprising nine trial trenches excavated on land at Abbey Field as part of a private research project into the history and archaeology of Pinchbeck parish. Three main phases of occupational activity were encountered in the southern half of the site, dating from the 12th to 17th centuries. The archaeological evidence suggests a more agricultural landscape in the northern half, with a large natural creek or channel also recorded. Finds recovered included Medieval and post-Medieval pottery, a 15th-16th century knife, and a 17th century horseshoe. Environmental remains suggest flax processing took place on the site in the early post-Medieval period.
