Date/Year 1999

Abstract/Summary

Archive for a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording conducted during the excavation of an electric cable trench between Torksey and Torksey Lock. Near the centre of Torksey, a buried limestone wall overlain by a dumped deposit containing 13th-14th century potsherds was encountered. Also within and around the historic village core, several dumped deposits of possible Medieval date were encountered. Just to the north of the village, an undated make-up layer of clay and cobbled surface was revealed. Several undated buried soils and subsoils were encountered along the length of the trench.
