Full Description

Site of a former school in Torksey, seen on the 2nd Edition 25 Inch (1905) and 6 Inch Series (1950) Ordnance Survey maps. It is unclear whether any of the original building survives within the house now occupying this site. {1}{2}{3} There is no mention of a school in Torksey in either White's 1856 or 1872 Trade Directories. {4}{5} During archaeological monitoring on an electric cable trench route in 1999, an undated make-up layer of clay with a cobbled surface above were encountered at this location. It is possible that this surface was a former schoolyard. {6}{7}
