Abstract/Summary

Report on a historic building survey undertaken prior to the conversion of agricultural outbuildings at Low Grange Farm, Middle Rasen, for domestic use. The surveyed structures formed the north and west ranges of a U-shaped farming complex, around a crewyard open to the south. The surveyed buildings were all mid- to late-19th century constructions of red brick, under hipped tile roofs. The east range, not included in the survey, was a modern cattle shed that replaced earlier structures seen on historic mapping. The north range comprised a two storey threshing barn with double threshing doors in the north and south elevations, and a two bay cart shed with granary above. A loose box, built in a later phase of construction, was built at the corner of the north and east ranges. Granary access was through internal stairs in the threshing barn. The cart shed had single doors opening into the crewyard and large double doors for cart access opening to the north. The west range comprised a single storey stable with three boxes, each with paneled heck door still in situ.
