Abstract/Summary
Archive for a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording conducted during groundworks for a foundation trench for a new kitchen boundary wall on land at Kingerby Hall, Kingerby, in October 2011. The monitoring for the groundworks revealed a potential Roman deposit, possibly representing early landscaping, to the west of the site. The trench also uncovered structural activity associated with medieval wall construction and the associated floor and levelling deposits dated to the late 12th-13th centuries. A kiln/oven was also identified as an internal associated with the walls, suggesting a large habitable structure. This feature was demolished and replaced by 1812 by the present structure, which is marked in the trench as a thick landscaped deposit. The remaining features are the late 19th-20th century landscaping ‘garden’ features, such as small pits and post settings. No further archaeological features were identified.
